Diatomaceous earth is a fine, natural powder made from fossilized diatoms. Its microscopically sharp structure damages the exoskeleton of red mites and other small parasites, causing them to dehydrate — mechanically and without chemicals.

"My chickens are very happy with it. They haven't had any problems with red mites so far." — J.S., verified review
Why choose Diatomaceous Earth?
- Mechanical action — damages the exoskeleton of red mites and other small parasites, causing them to dehydrate
- No resistance possible — the action is physical, not chemical or biological
- Versatile application — in the dust bath, in the nest box, or in cracks and crevices of the coop
- High absorption — absorbs up to 2 times its own weight in moisture
What can you realistically expect?
Diatomaceous earth works gradually and mechanically, not like a chemical agent that kills everything at once. In wet weather, it temporarily loses its effectiveness — therefore, it is best to apply it dry, and repeat regularly for the best results.
Composition
Ingredients: 100% diatomaceous earth (silica/silicon dioxide), extracted from fossilized diatom sediments. Very fine powder.
Who is this suitable for?
Suitable for all chicken breeds and for use in the chicken coop.
Usage
- In the dust bath — mix into the sand bath, where chickens will spread it over their feathers themselves while bathing
- In the nest box — sprinkle a thin layer through the nesting material
- In the coop — sprinkle 20-25 g per m² on walkways, in cracks and crevices. Preferably apply dry
- Protection during use — wear gloves and a dust mask to prevent inhalation of the fine powder

Frequently asked questions
How does diatomaceous earth work against red mites?
It mechanically damages the exoskeleton of red mites and other small parasites, causing them to dehydrate.
How do I best use diatomaceous earth?
Mix it into the dust bath, sprinkle it in the nest box, or apply it to walkways, cracks and crevices in the coop. Wear gloves and a dust mask during application.
Does it work when it rains or is damp?
No, when wet, diatomaceous earth temporarily loses its effectiveness. Preferably apply it dry and reapply after rain.
Can red mites develop resistance?
No, the action is mechanical, not chemical, so resistance development is not plausible.
Is this safe for my chickens?
Yes, diatomaceous earth is 100% natural and widely used in chicken dust baths.
How do I store diatomaceous earth?
Store dry and sealed in the original packaging, away from direct sunlight.
